Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu originated with a Judo master named Mitsuyo Maeda, who settled in Brazil after leaving Japan to travel the world for his prize-fighting career. He would eventually accept Carlos Gracie as his student in 1917, who along with his brother Helio would go on to create what is now known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Famously displayed by Royce Gracie in the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, BJJ is a proven skill set for real-world self-defense - using timing, leverage, momentum and strategy to allow smaller, weaker practitioners to protect themselves against larger, stronger opponents. It is used by police, military and special forces operators all over the world.
Professor Tyson is a 3rd-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having first received his black belt from the legendary Master Sylvio Behring and Professor Mike Yackulic in October of 2013. His mission is to preserve the self-defense foundations of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, deliver instruction in a fun and engaging format and promote its benefits for all walks of life.
